Tailoring has always been at the core of Christopher Bailey's work for Burberry Prorsum. Focusing on narrow and elongated proportions with an emphasis on the shoulders and contours of the waist, Burberry Prorsum blazers offer a youthful and effortlessly elegant take on traditional menswear. The result is timeless yet often unmistakably modern. The elongated blazer is one of Bailey's signature creations, first introduced in the S/S 2006 runway, reiterated almost every season that has followed and often worn by the designer himself (pictured). For S/S 2009's 'crumpled classics' collection, the characteristic design is given a slightly softer shape that evokes British elegance as seen in Valerie Finnis's Garden People photographs.

The jacket has a narrow high-armhole cut that is similar to classic Burberry Prorsum blazers, although the slightly increased length of the body lends a nonchalant rock 'n roll character to the elegant piece. The shoulders feature pads that can be removed for a more laid-back look, while the long sleeves reach well below the wrists. The fabric is a substantial cotton gabardine with an exceptionally dense weave that gives it a crisp and slightly wrinkled texture. Despite being 100% cotton, this high quality and luxurious fabric is completely waterproof like Burberry's heritage trenchcoats. 

Beautiful details complete the streamlined design: The distinctive buttons are made from gold-coloured cast metal that has been tarnished then repolished and varnished for a deep antique colour finish. Topstitching decorates the lapel and pocket edges, while the cuffs have four functional buttons. The back has a long single vent. The unlined interior is finished with extensive hand-stitching, French seams on the body and sateen-bound seams on the sleeves. The neck features a beautiful antique woven metal hanging chain.

With a raw and hard-wearing cloth that will come into its own beautifully through wear, this effortless piece will become a well-worn favourite that will improve over time.
